Eyeball Time Capsules

Recently I have been making the eyeball shaped sculptures out of 25lb high fired clay that are the size of large watermelons. Each sculpture weights about 45 lb I will usually fill up the inside of the plastic and plastic debris to make the sculpture solid and recycle. Then I paste pictures like collage on the surface of the sculpture as in the examples of above pictures. The above picture are of Miley Cyrus Concert and the photos are my own. In some cases people will send me their pictures for me to paste on the sculpture

This is another example of a sculpture I dedicated to my friends with photos of their wedding. Both of their names are written on the eyelids of the Eyeball. The sculpture also glows in the dark.

The below pictures are of another sculpture I made celebrating a married couple and their family. The sculpture also glows in the dark. Which can provide any room a soft light that does not need electricity and quarantined to last a life time. The sculptures are great way to celebrate and immortalize special people and place. When the things go changing and turning, the sculpture remains a time capsule of these people, connections, and friendships.

My name is David. e Arc Thrift Store was my first job after I was done with college. What I liked about Arc Thrift stores is that they represent, support, and provide for people with developmental disabilities such as myself. I'm hearing impaired, and socially awkward. I have graduated from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in December of 2010. I attained a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts in Illustration specializing in children's books. I have become an artist to make this world a better place by making it colorful. With my art I contribute to the community and people with disabilities. I proposed to paint murals in the squares of the ten planters that surrounded the Arc Thrift Store and a 24hour fitness as you may see in the pictures. In 2015 I started to paint the murals.

The paintings represent power, innovation, knowledge, change, window to other worlds, persistence, movement, energy, creativity, strength, durability, imagination, exploration, and vision. As I was painting, some people would tall me that my paintings looked like planets and cosmos. I was satisfied to hear that as an artist because with most of my art I want to show the vastness of the universe and other world. I used Home Depot BEHR Outdoor paints for the murals. I also used Acrylics that I mixed with home depot paints to achieve the desired colors. To seal the murals I used three coats of Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating and seal paint finish. The murals can still be found there on the planters reminding the public of the vibrant and vast worlds that lay beyond.

Cover for a children's book I illustrated and wrote.
I was born hearing impaired on the opposite end of the world, in Armenia. I remember watching my parents’ mouths move, as I observed how the lips moved pronouncing every single letter. I have learned to lip-read. My powerful eyes have enabled me to observe and understand the world where my ears have failed me. However, the silence surrounding me still made me isolated and lonely. I began to withdraw, and escape deeper into my inner world.  As I was exploring my young universe, I made drawings and sketches of things I saw, slowly becoming an artist and a story teller. Eleven year later, my family and I mover to Japan where I received my first hearing aids. In the 1995 my family and I moved to USA

To this day my paintings are based on abstract, surreal, fantasy, universe, and the spiritual subject matter and storytelling that I find in my imagination and other worlds. My current art has a lot of movement, bright and contrasting colors, three dimensional subjects, sense of space, sense of balance, symmetry, light and shadow, depth, perspective, and emotions. Soon I understood the importance of the eyes in my life, and with that I quickly produced brand new works of art. My new compositions consisted of large eyes racing, twisting, moving, and flying through space leaving long colorful tails behind.

Holiday Card Design. Done with pencils and Photo-Shop.
I have graduate from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in December of 2010. I attained a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts in Illustration specializing in children's books and story telling. It has been my lifelong dream to be a published author and illustrator, and I have written and illustrated five manuscripts. I also like to work with my hands, and make clay sculptures mostly of the eyes. I use clay, wood, mirrors, plaster, wire and found objects. I work with oil paint, acrylics, color pencils, and makers. I make fine art pieces, illustrations for the stories, posters, holiday cards, and banners.

I had a number of group and solo shows throughout Denver and Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities. I had sculpture installation at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in 2010. In 2004 my painting was displayed in the Smithsonian. My artwork, poems, and articles were published in local newsletters and a magazine.
